PUTRAJAYA, Aug. 28 – The government has agreed to maintain the ceiling price for standard chicken at RM9.40 per kilogram, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has said.

He said Cabinet took the unanimous decision on Friday August 26, adding that the government also decided against floating chicken prices in response to comments from multiple quarters.

“Further details regarding the decision will be announced tomorrow after the meeting of the special task force on jihad against inflation,” he said in a tweet, here today.

On July 30, KPDNHEP General Secretary Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said the government may not maintain the ceiling price for chicken which was previously set at RM9.40 per kilogram on the peninsula after August 31, as the he chicken supply is stable day after day.

Indeed, the market price for round chicken is now below the ceiling price, he said, adding that some sellers are offering prices as low as RM6.99 per kilogram.

He said the majority of suppliers are no longer facing production issues due to growth issues, sick chickens, etc., causing excess supply which affects the current price.

Earlier, Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said the government will review the standard chicken price cap and export permission after August 31. — Bernama
